After two years of development I'm excited, though a bit nervous, to publicly announce Everyday Paris over here.
This concept takes everything I've learned working in advertising and applied it to something I love; exploring and understanding other cultures. Starting with a city I know and love more than any other; Paris.
Much of what we do in advertising is ephemeral, especially in the post digital world. I've tried to write something that goes beyond basic observation or brut aggregation to create a new way to understand a city and its culture. Everyday Paris aims to re-empower us when we visit one of the world's great cities to reinstill authenticity in our adventures.
The intent is a high quality piece of work that stands the test of time through 35,000+ words for our modern times and for a new generation of travellers. As well, a new commercial model bringing livelihoods to undiscovered talent.
To be honest, while I'm excited to make a big public announcement today, I'm tremendously anxious to find out if it is any good. There has been lots of testing and some great early advocates including one of the Zagats, but the marketplace will reveal in total honestly whether the world really needs this concept now.
All the action leading up to the publishing date, inluding launch party invites, will be on Facebook, so go here and Like the page please. S'il vous plaît.
Thanks for your interest, following is the formal outline of the concept. Thoughts, comments and "Likes" appreciated. Especially the Likes.

About Everyday Paris by Brett T. T. Macfarlane:
Only
recently has travel become a mainstream pursuit, and in response tourism has
robustly industrialized, sterilizing the travel experience. Consequently, beyond seeing the
important but obvious sights, already familiar thanks to a lifetime of popular
culture, there is a deep desire to break through the bubble of passive
spectator tourism and become active participants in the world’s great cities.
Especially, in Paris, the most visited city on earth.
Everyday
Paris is a cultural briefing for the curious contemporary traveler seeking to authentically
experience uniquely local ways life.
An insightful and entertaining companion that explores the mentalities,
routines, traditions and codes of being Parisian to empower you to do Paris as
Parisians do.
This briefing on Paris launches a global
publishing platform in partnership with Amazon Kindle using the principles of a
technology start-up amidst publishing's ever evolving landscape. With Everyday
Paris an open call goes out for ten writers to produce an Everyday Cultural
