"Creativity means not copying"
- Ferran Adria
At the heart of a great retail experience is finding the unexpected, which I did on the weekend coming across a book on the world's greatest restaurant, elBulli. The book stunningly details the creative process of Ferran Adria. The chef who 6 months of each year his restaurant closes for creative development. Restaurants, like marketing firms, wrap themselves up in the guise of "creativity" yet a handful of outposts at any one time truly are creating something new, original and influential. Often quietly. Unpretentiously.
Sometimes the creative minds are simply crazy, other times they are simply methodical, industrious and idealistically focused on creating something original. Ferran is the latter and this is one of my new favorite books on creativity.
I'm pretty sure Ferran doesn't have a blog, he's too busy creating. Probably a lesson in there.
