Like a number of other cities around the world, Vancouver has its own Critical Mass which according to the blog is a "Dynamic" Critical Mass. The last Friday of each month citicens on human powered wheels take to the streets and become their own form of traffic. I had heard about this for a while, and was kind of onboard with the idea, but tonight they rolled past my home and I couldn't help but to run down and get my sweet bike and join the mass. Naturally I twittered the entire event live. So here is a real time record of the event with photos showing what it's all about.
Live at En Mass.
We are not blocking traffic, we are traffic:
The urban peleton is taking over.
This is too friendly to be a protest:
Regrouping, preparing for another charge.
Hello smiling policeman.
Oddly, many happy drivers. Even though they aren't driving.
But boy, some drivers sure are sour.
I wonder what is at the end? A jar of beads?
Okay, we won. So like now what, sign some promises of legislation?
I like sticking by the guy with music.
Time for a stop outside
Vancouver's favorite healthy grocery store. Good, all this cycling is making me hungry.
And, time to coast.
All and all it was a really neat experience. I'd do it again. Here's some video of the action in the urban peleton:
