Banking is easily one of the dullest and slowest changing industries. Which is what make this solution to Bank of America's challenge of attracting new customers so great. Rather than duplicate competitors with free chequeing, extended hours or fancy branch interiors and advertising the heck out of it (See Washington Mutual.) They chose to innovate a new way of banking by creating a Visa where for every purchase the purchase amount is rounded up to the nearest dollar and the variance is deposited into the customer's bank account. Here's a better explanation. Basically, they create and give you spare change with every purchase. It's very cool and the 99% retention rate speaks for itself .
